Our story

Kinu began with a simple question: what happens after dance?
For many of us, ballet shaped the way we move through the world. It gave us structure, strength, and a deep connection to our bodies. But stepping away from that life can feel like leaving a part of yourself behind.
Founded by a professional ballet dancer, Kinu was created to carry that part forward. Not to hold on too tightly, but to make space for what comes next.
Each piece is crafted in Japan using Japanese-milled fabrics, chosen for their feel and quality. We produce in small batches, with care and intention. These aren’t just leotards. They’re garments made to move with you through whatever stage you’re in.
Kinu is for those who has continued to dance, for the ones finding their way back, finding a new way forward, or those finding dance for the first time.
Dance through every stage.

A note from Kaela, Founder

Kinu began as a reflection on everything ballet has given me. I’ve spent most of my life as a ballerina, shaped by the discipline, beauty, and quiet resilience this art form demands. But as I started imagining life beyond the studio, I realized I wanted something that could carry both where I’ve been and where I’m going. I created Kinu to honor that full journey. Each piece is designed not just to perform in, but to live in.

As a Japanese dancer, it was important to me that Kinu stayed rooted in where I come from. Our leotards are crafted in Japan using Japanese-milled fabrics and made with the same care, precision, and artistry that ballet itself requires. Every stitch reflects a standard I’ve lived by.

I hope these pieces give you that extra confidence boost to help you get through whatever step you're taking. <3

Merde! ;)
